Canberra needs a community centre or town hall
Canberra is a wonderful place, and is well known as the "bush capital". Over the past 100 years, it has grown from a sleepy paddock in the early 1900s to a thriving city. However, its infrastructure has not kept pace with its multifaced growth. One of the major requirements yet to be addressed is the need for a large, multipurpose community centre.

Does Canberra need a new, fit-for-purpose multicultural centre?
I am calling on the Barr Govt to be visionary and build a large multipurpose community center/Town Hall. Stanhope Govt has given us the National Arboretum and the Barr Govt can leave us the Town Hall. Canberra is the only jurisdiction that does not have a fit for purpose Town Hall. Even small town Yass has got a town hall. A Fit for purpose Town Hall will have many benefits including an estimated $3million annual expenditures and over 800 jobs per year in the hospitality sector alone. ACT govt must support international students and temporary visa holders
At a time when our community is grappling with an unprecedented crisis, the federal government's decision to exclude nearly 1 million international students and temporary visa holders from the otherwise commendable stimulus package is unjust. It reeks of the protectionism, parochialism and lack of empathy that has characterised the worst parts of our polity's response to multiculturalism.
